AAA Library Student Training Guides: Customer Service & Our Core Values

Radical Hospitality

Radical Hospitality! Ever person who walks in the library could be your next best friend. Greet them like they are an individual, and a potential friend. Watch in the reference are for anyone who is standing by the printer. How long are they there? If more than 1` minute,go ask them if they need help, then make some small talk. Ideas for small talk:

  • How's your day going?
  • What classes are you taking?
  • Do you like class _______
  • What is your major?
  • Where are you from?
  • I have a pet/hobby/enjoy____ how about you?

Doing homework and not focusing on our community can kill our community. Be present. Homework is allowed but please remember that is not the focus of your job. Being present, doing your tasks, encouraging community IS your job (and ours).
