HUS 337: Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities: Research Paper

The general elective course is designed to prepare students for work with those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It will introduce students to conditions and trends and issues in working with those with disabilities.

Research Paper -  25% - 30%

Students will pick an area of interest in the intellectual and developmental disabilities field. (specific mental illness, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Epilepsy, Attention-Deficit, etc.) Students will research the topic to include the following:

            What is the specific disability?

            What is the etiology and history of the illness?

            What services are currently available?

            What current legislation affects the services for this population? 

            What funding exists for these programs?

            Are services adequate for this disability in our area?

            Where are they provided? 

Paper Format

APA 7th edition requires a title page, then 6-8 pages of the main body of your paper, and a separate references page. Utilize APA format headings and subheadings. 

In-text citations in APA format must be in the main body of your paper. 

Include 2-3 scholarly references from your 5 sources from the Saint Leo University Library of online journals. Contact the library for help if you need it.
