Rheorical Writing: The Nuts and Bolts

With each writing...ask yourself:

What is the purpose behind your writing? Are you informing, analyzing and/or convincing?

Who are you writing for--who is in the audience?

What is the topic/what angle are you taking? 

ETHOS: Greek word for "character." Use the correct language, grammar and syntax for the audience. 

PATHOS: Greek word for "suffering" and "experience." So, try to evoke sympathy/empathy/understanding from your audience. 

LOGOS: Greek word for "logic." Using logic/reason to convince your audience.
