Syllabus

International Influences: Haunted Britain: This embedded study abroad course will present a general survey of the function of the supernatural in the United Kingdom as reflected its fine and performing arts and literature. The interconnectivity between history, literature, art, architecture, and culture will be emphasized. Thanksgiving Break will be spent in in the UK, primarily in Edinburgh, York, Bath, and London, experiencing firsthand the culture represented in works we have studied. This course is writing intensive and reflects the University’s Benedictine values of excellence, community, and personal growth.

Research Assignments

This semester you’ll be working on four research assignments (in addition to your four exams). These assignments will build upon each other, culminating in a final written assignment due the last week of class. Bring your laptop to class with you regularly, as we'll frequently use the last few minutes of class to gather sources.
