Your mission, should you choose to accept it . . .

Write an essay in which you provide the social context to Wilfred Owen's "Dulce Et Decorum Est" by researching any ONE of the following topics: the poet himself, World War I literature, World War I warfare (weapons, tactics), and explain how knowing that social context enhances your understanding of the poem and further emphasizes Owen's claim in it. 

Your thesis statement for this essay must contain the answer to the following question: What specific information/newfound knowledge is most important to the full understanding of the poem and why? 

 

This essay must include a Works Cited page on which you will list all sources used in it (2 peer-reviewed sources at least) as well as in-text citations throughout. Additionally, the essay must adhere to the MLA format (use the Reference Guide) and contain a minimum of 1000 words (excluding the Works Cited page).
