ENG 498: Senior Seminar: History of Adaptation Using Plato's Republic/Short Story adapt. of The Allegory of the Cave

This volume of essays presents a selection of studies in the ways in which Platonist psychology is adapted to the needs of thinkers in the three great religious traditions of later antiquity, Judaism, Christianity and Islam. The authors are all acknowledged experts in their own fields, as well as being familiar with the Platonic tradition.

This book analyzes the work of Iris Murdoch as a thinker concerned with conceptions of human good in contemporary Western cultures. Until now, Murdoch's contributions to literature and the relationship between her philosophical work and her novels have received little comprehensive examination.
