Abstract:
An essay is presented on modern heroic quest narratives. It offers a history of the use of faily-tale and fantasy elements in modern quest narratives and examines the fantasy quest plot and its progression toward a personal transformation leading to adulthood and maturity. It highlights how the fantasy quest elements are used in the books "The Wizard of Oz," by Frank L. Baum, "The Hobbit," by J. R. R. Tolkien, and "His Dark Materials," by Philip Pullman.
