Police Use of Deadly Force Topic

 POLICE USE OF DEADLY FORCE: TRAINING AND APPLICATION

 

Law enforcement officers have enormous legal authority. In addition to the authority to deprive an individual of liberty (arrest), officers can lawfully use deadly force, resulting in loss of life. But this authority has grave responsibilities.

 

a. LEGAL RESEARCH: Discuss the relevant Florida statutory authority for police power and the use of deadly force; and relevant federal and state case law addressing both agency and individual liability.  Cite specific cases (including case citations) where courts have ruled that the use of Deadly Force was either justified or not.

Labor Topic

LABOR RELATIONS AND COLLECTIVE BARGAINING.

The right to organize and collectively bargain for Public Employees in the state of Florida has had a dramatic impact on both state and local government.

 

The research assignment for this topic will consist of:

a.       ANALYSIS:

a.       conduct a thorough analysis of Florida law as it relates to this subject.  Specifically, the student will report on the establishment of the Public Employees Relations Commission, its makeup, authority, and responsibilities according to Florida State Statutes. 

b.      The subject of Collective Bargaining should be addressed in detail to include the establishment of the bargaining unit (Certification Process) and all other issues as prescribed by law.  Excluded employee positions shall be discussed as will the issue of the right to "strike."
