REL 201: Introduction to the New Testament: Module 2

A basic introduction to the literature and theology of the New Testament, including exposure to critical methods such as form and redaction criticisms.

Outcomes

At the conclusion of this module, students will be able to: 

  • Explain the likely historical factors contributing to the writing of Mark's Gospel. 
  • Describe the portrait of Jesus according to Mark's Gospel.
  • Explain the element of secrecy in Mark's Gospel.

Thematic Paper

Students must complete a thematic paper that traces one of the biblical themes from the list below noting developments of that theme in the Old Testament and in the New Testament. Include the continuity in the development of the theme as well as any changes in meaning. Note any areas of disputed understanding. This paper must be accompanied by an outline. See Doc Sharing for a list of source materials. Be sure to make use of those sources for your paper. The paper needs to be well-documented. Be certain to distinguish between paraphrase and quotation. This paper should be ebtween 1,500 and 2,000 words in length. Please use MLA format. Review additional instructions and helps in teh Thematic_Paper_Helps_for_REL201 document in Doc sharing. The thematic paper is worth 25% of the course grade and is due in Module 2.
